Often people have difficulty talking about race in spaces where they don’t feel comfortable.
By participating in Night of A Thousand Conversations you are a part of a larger conversation addressing direct violence against African Americans and Persons of Color in the US, which is a continuation of the Jim Crow era prejudice, economic inequity, and other forms of discrimination. This reality of violence and injustice has been linked to slavery by many scholars (e.g., Alexander, 2012; Blackmon, 2008). The suggested conversation will utilize a restorative justice circle-based dialogue approach to allow each participant the chance to have his or her say*. We have just watched some testimony together, and now we will exchange thoughts and feelings in an effort to formulate a plan of action together that
we intend to implement together.
